About Me

ABOUT ME

I wish I could come up with some really fancy, dynamic description for who I am, but it’s really a mosaic of different pieces, shapes and colors. I’m still working on some of the puzzle pieces, and kind of like the weather, some things can change by the day, while others are rock solid and enduring.
I am a Southern girl, born and raised.
I am a wife, a pastor’s wife to be more specific, for over 42 years. We’ve lived in three different states during his ministry, so I know a lot about hellos and goodbyes.
I am Mom to two amazing sons who make me so proud. I also have beautiful daughters-in-law. They give great make-up and decorating advice.
I am Grammie to the world’s most amazing and adorable grandchildren.I have several years under my belt as an LDG- Long Distance Grammie, as well as now living close to some of them.
I am a Dachshund Mom to Dixon who is 6.
I am an author. My first book is “31 Spiritual Lessons I Learned From My Dog” which was inspired by our first beloved Dachshund Cosmo. You may order your copy by clicking on the button below.
I love to write about what I see around me and bring it into
perspective with my faith, as well as sharing my own experiences.
I am a woman of personal faith in, and a follower of Jesus.
I am a musician of sorts. I’ve played piano by ear for many years, and recently began to play the mountain dulcimer and the psaltery.
I love thrift store shopping, or treasure hunting as I like to call it!
I love to eat!
I really don’t feel I should be the age I am, but over the last year I’ve been embracing my natural icy white haircolor!
I find the older I get the more freedom I feel from having to measure up or fit into molds! If I like it, I wear it. I’m going to continue however to fight the urge that “If I think it, I’m gonna say it! The first sure sign of age is that you lose that “think before you speak filter”!
I am someone who has experienced financial difficulties and come
out the other side stronger and wiser.
I know what it’s like to care for an aging parent.
I am an almost 20 year early breast cancer Survivor/Thriver. I spent almost a decade raising money with my friend Toni for breast cancer education, mammograms, etc.
I am a person who has experienced loss, two miscarriages.
I love to challenge myself. I have done lots of 5Ks, 2 skyscraper climbs of 38 floors in 16-17 minutes! (Luckily, you don’t have to climb down!) My biggest challenge physically and mentally was climbing all the stairs all the way around the football stadium at the University of Louisville in Louisville, KY. It took me just short of 2 hours. I’ve gotten away from these types of challenges and I want to get back at it.
I am a person who is very grateful for my family and for my “tribe”, you know, the strong women we surround ourselves with who love us unconditionally and are always there, but who will also tell you straight up what you need to hear.
There you have it! This isn’t really ALL about me, but it’s a start. I hope some of what I’ve described will sound familiar to you. I hope some of what I’ve learned along the way will speak to where you are now, or what you may encounter later. I’m excited about our visits together. I can’t wait to explore and share where we’ve been and where we are going!
For the sake of categorizing my blog, I chose lifestyle, but potpourri or catch-all could have worked just as well. It’s about everything and all over the place, kind of like me!

WESmith Great book! Wow! Quotes scripture for each spiritual lesson. Provides a focused prayer for each spiritual lesson. It is such a great reminder that He is our Master, our Father, our God. This is for anyone who is loved and owned by a dog - especially a dachshund - they will relate. Ms. King puts into words what a dog actually thinks and can prompt us to think. Also, she expresses the love that our Heavenly Father has for us in allowing us to be caretakers of these precious animals and learn lessons from them that will carry throughout life. I recommend this for anyone!!!
Wolfette Insightful, funny and spiritually enlightening. I have a special admiration for Raylene King's ability to find the humor in our daily caring for a dog and relate it to our experiences with God. It is evident that she is very deep rooted in her faith and I am confident that this book will be a blessing to anyone who reads it.
Armando V I want to tell you how excited I am about your book. I read a few excerpts and they blew me away! Let me first tell you that I'm not a pet person. I was wondering if I was going to have to be a dog lover to really get the full meaning, but it wasn't necessary! I Completely connected with it! The way you compare our relationship as masters to our pets with the relationship we have with Christ really deepened my perspective in my walk as a Christian.
Lori L In reading these doggy devotionals, I was convinced in a very moving way about how truly disobedient I am every day to my Master. Little Cosmo and I are clearly a lot alike! I was also reminded to be grateful to my merciful and loving Master that He doesn't discipline me harshly, but gently and persuasively.
