Y’all know I am a big Pinterest fan. I see so many neat ideas on there from fashion to food to décor for my home. I really like the vintage look in furniture pieces: cabinets, tables and chests. One day while I was looking on the site, I saw this interesting hack. Someone had taken an old dresser and turned it into a functional, yet charming cabinet. Now I see lots of stuff I like, but I can’t use tools to do anything about it. But….my friend Vickie can! She can really do just about anything: carpentry, plumping, electrical, sew anything (this is a big one to someone…me… who actually managed to set on fire a curtain I was trying to sew!) and she is an amazing dog-whisperer. This is not an exaggeration. Although I am more limited in my hands-on abilities, I really enjoy the “thrill of the hunt”, finding an idea and then searching down the components needed to accomplish it. We really make a good team. I tell her I am Joanna Gaines and she is my Clint Harp, I bring the ideas and she figures out how to do it! (although she has great ideas too!)
So, I showed Vickie my idea, and I started looking for an affordable piece we could use on the on-line yard sale listings. Eventually I found the perfect piece and we went to pick it up. If I remember correctly, I think the lady knocked a little off her asking price because one of the drawers was messed up, but that didn’t matter, it fit my purpose just fine.
To make a little extra display area, Vickie took the broken drawer piece and made a little shelf to go on top. We decided that it would be nice to add aluminum rollers to the legs. It added some visual interest, plus it added a couple of inches of height.
And here’s the finished product! I quickly got it all dresser-ed up and decorated with my red and white accessories. I used it without the curtain with just open storage and it’s nice that way, but I decided to sew a curtain for last Christmas. I liked it so much that I’ve left it on. I’m thinking of making other curtains and change it up seasonally. It’s always a great reminder of a fun project with a great friend, with the added bonus of a little extra storage space!
